The Meccan Period and Persecution
For thirteen years the Prophet ﷺ called the people of Makkah to the worship of one God, to justice, and to care for the weak. The early believers endured severe persecution at the hands of the Quraysh elite, and many were tortured or boycotted.
Despite hardship, the community of believers grew in patience and solidarity. Towards the end of this period, the Prophet ﷺ was honoured with the miraculous night journey and ascension, and he began to seek a new home for the believers.
