Surah 86

The Nightcommer

سُورَةُ الطَّارِقِ

    بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

    Transliteration: Wassamaaa'i wattaariq

    By the sky and the night comer -

  2. 2

    وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ

    Transliteration: Wa maaa adraaka mattaariq

    And what can make you know what is the night comer?

  3. 3

    ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ

    Transliteration: Annajmus saaqib

    It is the piercing star -

  4. 4

    إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ

    Transliteration: In kullu nafsil lammaa 'alaihaa haafiz

    There is no soul but that it has over it a protector.

  5. 5

    فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

    Transliteration: Fal yanzuril insaanu mimma khuliq

    So let man observe from what he was created.

  6. 6

    خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ

    Transliteration: Khuliqa mim maaa'in daafiq

    He was created from a fluid, ejected,

  7. 7

    يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

    Transliteration: Yakhruju mim bainissulbi wat taraaa'ib

    Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.

  8. 8

    إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ

    Transliteration: Innahoo 'alaa raj'ihee laqaadir

    Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able.

  9. 9

    يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

    Transliteration: Yawma tublas saraaa'ir

    The Day when secrets will be put on trial,

  10. 10

    فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ

    Transliteration: Famaa lahoo min quwwatinw wa laa naasir

    Then man will have no power or any helper.

  11. 11

    وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ

    Transliteration: Wassamaaa'i zaatir raj'

    By the sky which returns [rain]

  12. 12

    وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ

    Transliteration: Wal ardi zaatis sad'

    And [by] the earth which cracks open,

  13. 13

    إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ

    Transliteration: Innahoo laqawlun fasl

    Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement,

  14. 14

    وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ

    Transliteration: Wa maa huwa bil hazl

    And it is not amusement.

  15. 15

    إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا

    Transliteration: Innahum yakeedoona kaidaa

    Indeed, they are planning a plan,

  16. 16

    وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا

    Transliteration: Wa akeedu kaidaa

    But I am planning a plan.

  17. 17

    فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا

    Transliteration: Famahhilil kaafireena amhilhum ruwaidaa

    So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.
