The Cleaving

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنفَطَرَتْ

Transliteration: Izas samaaa'un fatarat

When the sky breaks apart

وَإِذَا ٱلْكَوَاكِبُ ٱنتَثَرَتْ

Transliteration: Wa izal kawaakibun tasarat

And when the stars fall, scattering,

وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ

Transliteration: Wa izal bihaaru fujjirat

And when the seas are erupted

وَإِذَا ٱلْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ

Transliteration: Wa izal qubooru bu'sirat

And when the [contents of] graves are scattered,

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌۭ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ

Transliteration: 'Alimat nafsum maa qaddamat wa akhkharat

A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ

Transliteration: Yaaa ayyuhal insaaanu maa gharraka bi Rabbikal kareem

O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,

ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ

Transliteration: Allazee khalaqaka fasaw waaka fa'adalak

Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?

فِىٓ أَىِّ صُورَةٍۢ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ

Transliteration: Feee ayye sooratim maa shaaa'a rakkabak

In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.

كَلَّا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلدِّينِ

Transliteration: Kalla bal tukazziboona bid deen

No! But you deny the Recompense.

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَٰفِظِينَ

Transliteration: Wa inna 'alaikum lahaa fizeen

And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,

كِرَامًۭا كَٰتِبِينَ

Transliteration: Kiraaman kaatibeen

Noble and recording;

يَعْلَمُونَ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ

Transliteration: Ya'lamoona ma taf'aloon

They know whatever you do.

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍۢ

Transliteration: Innal abraara lafee na'eem

Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure,

وَإِنَّ ٱلْفُجَّارَ لَفِى جَحِيمٍۢ

Transliteration: Wa innal fujjaara lafee jaheem

And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.

يَصْلَوْنَهَا يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ

Transliteration: Yaslawnahaa Yawmad Deen

They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,

وَمَا هُمْ عَنْهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ

Transliteration: Wa maa hum 'anhaa bighaaa 'ibeen

And never therefrom will they be absent.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ

Transliteration: Wa maaa adraaka maa Yawmud Deen

And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

ثُمَّ مَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ

Transliteration: Summa maaa adraaka maa Yawmud Deen

Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

يَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌۭ لِّنَفْسٍۢ شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ وَٱلْأَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلَّهِ

Transliteration: Yawma laa tamliku nafsul linafsin shai'anw walamru yawma'izil lillaah

It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allah.
