Surah 6 Al-An'aam — Ayah 137
وَكَذَٰلِكَ زَيَّنَ لِكَثِيرٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ قَتْلَ أَوْلَٰدِهِمْ شُرَكَآؤُهُمْ لِيُرْدُوهُمْ وَلِيَلْبِسُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ دِينَهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مَا فَعَلُوهُ ۖ فَذَرْهُمْ وَمَا يَفْتَرُونَ
ހަމައެފަދައިން، مشرك ންގެ ގިނަ މީހުންނަށް އެއުރެންގެ ދަރިން މެރުމަށް، އެއުރެންގެ شريك ން، ޒީނަތްތެރިކޮށް ދެއްކިއެވެ. އެއީ އެއުރެން ހަލާކުގެ ތެރެޔަށް ފޮނުވުމަށެވެ. އަދި އެއުރެންނަށް އެއުރެންގެ ދީން އޮޅުވާލުމަށެވެ. اللَّه އިރާދަކުރެއްވިނަމަ، އެއުރެން އެކަމެއް ނުކުރީހެވެ. ފަހެ، ކަލޭގެފާނު އެއުރެން ހަދާ ދޮގުތަކާއެކު، އެއުރެން ދޫކޮށްލައްވާށެވެ!
wakadhālika zayyana likathīrin mina l-mush'rikīna qatla awlādihim shurakāuhum liyur'dūhum waliyalbisū ʿalayhim dīnahum walaw shāa l-lahu mā faʿalūhu fadharhum wamā yaftarūna

- وَكَذَٰلِكَ wakadhālika And likewise
- زَيَّنَ zayyana made pleasing
- لِكَثِيرٍۢ likathīrin to many
- مِّنَ mina of
- ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ l-mush'rikīna the polytheists
- قَتْلَ qatla (the) killing
- أَوْلَـٰدِهِمْ awlādihim (of) their children
- شُرَكَآؤُهُمْ shurakāuhum their partners
- لِيُرْدُوهُمْ liyur'dūhum so that they may ruin them
- وَلِيَلْبِسُوا۟ waliyalbisū and that they make confusing
- عَلَيْهِمْ ʿalayhim to them
- دِينَهُمْ ۖ dīnahum their religion
- وَلَوْ walaw And if
- شَآءَ shāa (had) willed
- ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah
- مَا mā not
- فَعَلُوهُ ۖ faʿalūhu (would) they have done so
- فَذَرْهُمْ fadharhum So leave them
- وَمَا wamā and what
- يَفْتَرُونَ yaftarūna they invent
Tafsir · Ibn Kathir (Abridged)
Shaytan Lured the Idolators to Kill Their Children
Allah says, just as the Shayatin lured the idolators to assign a share for Allah from what He created of agriculture and cattle - and a share for the idols, they also made it seem fair for them to kill their children, for fear of poverty, and burying their daughters alive, for fear of dishonor. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported from Ibn `Abbas that he commented;
(And so to many of the idolators, their "partners" have made fair seeming the killing of their children...) "They make killing their children attractive to them." Mujahid said, "Idolators' partners among the devils ordered them to bury their children for fear of poverty." As-Suddi said, "The devils commanded them to kill their daughters so that they,
(lead them to their own destruction), and to,
(cause confusion in their religion.)" Allah said,
(And if Allah had willed, they would not have done so.) meaning, all this occurred by Allah's leave, will and decree, but He dislikes these practices, and He has the perfect wisdom in every decree. He is never questioned about what He does, but they all will be questioned.
(So leave them alone with their fabrications.) meaning, avoid and abandon them and what they do, for Allah will judge between you and them.
